Contrary to popular belief, the dachshund does not tolerate cold well: it has neither the body mass of a large dog nor the dense coat of a husky. On winter walks, its low belly is exposed to snow, damp and wind — which can lead to chills, muscle stiffness and even back tension that aggravates intervertebral disc disease.
